Cake and fashion. As far as a combo guaranteeing a lovely Sunday goes, it doesn’t get much better than that. At least in my sugar-craving, dresses-loving opinion :) Last week I had the pleasure of experiencing exactly that combo, when a few of Ghent’s finest fashion entrepreneurs assembled at a picturesque venue in Lochristi for the third edition of “Taart + Textiel”.
I hadn’t had the chance to attend one of the previous editions, so this year I was determined to go check it out. Especially since the wonderful wedding dress of one of my dearest friends would be the center piece of the presented collection of “Kollektie Eva”. So off we went on a sunny Sunday, expecting a lovely fashionable afternoon. And we weren’t disappointed. On the contrary, I was expecting a rather small gathering and was surprised by the scale and crowd (all dressed up in their Sunday finery, while yours truly arrived in wedge sneakers and ripped jeans, whoopsie :) )
The collections of Karolien Verstraeten, Zoot and Kollektie Eva were presented both through pop-up shops in these cute cottages adjacent to “The Little Pancake House” as through a small but dynamic show (including live marching band music and amazing burlesque dancers!). Karolien Verstraeten’s collection included classic fits with feminine fabrics, while Zoot’s warm colors and cozy knitted sweaters could almost be a cure for end-of-summer nostalgia. But without a doubt, the highlight of the show was the beautiful one of a kind wedding gown that Eva Janssens designed for my amazing (and equally one of a kind ;) ) friend Paule. It was showcased by a couple dancing to the opening song of their wedding, so yes: a few tears could be spotted… We finished off the afternoon in beauty with a yummy pancake accompanied by a Jigger’s mocktail and a little snooping session in the Be-Angeled & Black Balloon pop-up shop.
There’s a big chance this fashionable lot will be seeing me again for the next edition ;) How about you?
